Trust me, I love luxury items but I do not have the funds to buy any and all that I like. And let’s be honest, I like a lot!! What I’ve found over the years, is choosing to invest in a few luxurious items can supplement clothing that you would have to replace more frequently. And they’re items that could be worn on a regular basis.
Below are 5 luxury items you should invest in to implement your wardrobe plus the reasons why:
- The Perfect Handbag. I know you have a favorite handbag. We all do. For years, I wanted a Louis Vuitton Neverfull PM handbag that I could wear to work everyday. But it was $1000 and let’s be real, I don’t have a $1000 lying around to splurge on a luxury item. So we saved and one day Chuck surprised me with it. We were at Daniel’s Broiler for date night (a very nice date night, might I add!) and as our server brought our drinks, he also carried over a Louis Vuitton bag. I about died. Chuck had bought the Louis Vuitton, Neverfull PM checkered bag! Ah!! Best date night ever. Now, ever since then, I’ve literally worn it every day to work. It fits my laptop, a notebook, and my purse items, i.e. wallet, lipsticks, phone, gum, etc. without an issue. It also can be worn as a smaller handbag by pushing the sides in. So on the weekends, that’s how I can wear it. It has become a staple in my life and given the use, it was worth the investment. Tip: If you don’t have a luxurious bag yet and there is a bag that you’ve been eying for awhile, ask yourself what you’ll use it for. If you want a Chanel because its a ‘Chanel’ (which I totally get, btw!) you’re not going to use it as often as you think. But if you buy a bag that you can use on the daily, you’ll get the right use out of it.
- Handbag #2. Now, if you already have a luxurious handbag that you use on a daily basis but want to explore another one that you may not use as frequently, let’s talk about which one you should buy. After having the Louis for awhile, I had been eying a Celine. I loved the look, the style, and wanted to implement my wardrobe with another bag that wasn’t necessarily something I’d wear to work. For some reason, after you have a bag for awhile and use it everyday, the excitement of it decreases (unfortunately!). Don’t get me wrong, I love my Louis and always will, but was ready for another one that I could add to my closet. First things first, what is your budget? If its $2K max and you want a Chanel, that’s probably not going to work. However, if you want a Saint Laurent or a Celine, we can make that happen. One of my favorite sites is Trendlee. They sell lightly used handbags as a discounted price. So when I was loving the looks of a Celine but realized that brand new they are pretty darn expensive, I started browsing Trendlee’s site and found the one in this post. The color scheme was unique and something that would go with anything I put it with. This was another surprise from Chuck. I’ve got to share the story. Last Christmas, at my parent’s house, after we all opened our presents, Chuck stepped out of the room. I just thought he ran to the restroom, but oh no, he was grabbing a gift out of my parent’s garage. He walked back into the room with a huge box that was wrapped (obviously!). I opened it and it was this handbag! I FREAKED! I mean, WTF!? This is crazy. I never in a million years thought I’d get this handbag. But he did it again. Tip: If there’s a second handbag that you’re dying to have, save some money and buy it through Trendlee. Similar to this bag, it looks like it was never worn and simply sat in someone’s closet. Take the time to browse, research, and truly decide which handbag you want. It’ll make a difference.
- Sunglasses. Sunnies can range from $12.99 at BP to $400 if you’re buying a luxurious brand. I have recently been loving sunglasses and have about 5 pair. I’m the type that likes to own a few less expensive ones and a few high end ones. I have one very simple rule when it comes to dropping bills on sunnies: They must look good on your face. I don’t care if you like the brand, if they don’t look good, don’t drop money on them. My two favorite sunglass brands are: Karen Walker and Celine, and for two reasons. The Karen Walker’s make me feel like Audrey Hepburn. They are round and big and have darker lenses. On the other hand, I love my Celine’s because they actually fit my face perfectly. I have a really small head so it’s difficult for me to find sunnies. Celine has 3 different frame sizes to fit all faces. Tip: Make sure the high end sunnies you want to buy look good, feel good, and can be worn all the time.
- Shoes. Louboutin’s, Jimmy’s, and Valentino’s are all my favorites, but one thing I’ve learned when selecting to purchase high end shoes is try them on and walk around in them for at least 5 minutes in the store. I have a pair of Jimmy’s that I love and can wear for a long period of time. Chuck surprised me with a pair of So Kate Christian Louboutin’s and while I love them, I can barely wear them. I wear heels everyday to work and these Louboutin’s are the most uncomfortable heels I have ever worn. I can barely walk in them. So I’m deciding whether or not, I sell them and purchase a lower heel pair. I’ll keep you posted. Tip: When purchasing high end shoes, find a pair that you will wear regularly. For example, the Valentino flats, they can be worn pretty regularly. My Jimmy Choo heels are sparkly so I get great use out of them when I attend weddings, Easter Sunday, special occasion dinners, etc. Pick a pair that you like, one’s that you’ll wear and that won’t kill your feet. Trust me, it’s not worth it.
