It’s that time of year where Fall weddings are kicking off. In fact, we just went to one this past weekend at this beautiful mansion in Seattle. It was the most quaint, sweet, and beautiful wedding we’ve been to.  So much fun! I just love weddings!

As we approach Fall, the wedding attire shifts.  The shorter, sleeveless, cocktail dresses move aside and the long gowns take the spotlight.  I paired this long, royal blue dress with my nude pumps and my Louis Vuitton clutch.  I love the ‘soft curls’ look with a simple cat-eye and a pop of color on my lips.  It’s elegant, classic, and fits in with the warmer Fall colors. I wore this dress last October to a friend’s wedding and it was perfect. I paired it with a shawl to throw over my shoulders when the weather cooled off and called it a day.

The one thing I hear from so many ladies is, ‘How do I know what to wear to a Fall wedding? I don’t want to be overdressed.’

Well, here’s my advice on that.

  1. You Can Never Be Overdressed.  Whether you are going to a wedding in a corn field, a chic barn, or a 5-star hotel, dress to the nines and wear what you want. It shows the bride and groom that you truly care about their wedding because you paid attention to detail in what you picked to wear.
  2. Don’t Over Think It. You have to be you. If you are the type that sticks to cocktail dresses year round, wear them, and strut your stuff. If you are the type of person who dances their heart out and wants to wear casual, comfortable attire to a wedding, do it! Or if you are the gal that dresses in that beautiful, long gown, go for it sister!  Yes, there are rules that you must abide by (#3 below!) regarding what you should and shouldn’t wear to a wedding but In reality, you have to wear what represents you.
  3. You Mustn’t Wear White. Now, I know you all know this but you can dress up all you want, in any color you want, except white or ivory. In fact, my rule of thumb is, if the dress has predominately one color and there are hues of white, I still won’t wear it. I avoid white at all costs. It’s the bride’s day, let her wear all the white she can.

I hope that the next wedding you go to, you don’t over think what you wear, but enjoy your outfit! And heck, have fun!
