Sea Salt, Chocolate Chip Cookies…

I love sweets around the holidays. In fact, I always eat way too many because they’re always around at the office, at dinners, and parties. It’s become a tradition in our house to make sea salt, chocolate chip cookies every Christmas. Chuck loves them so much, he can eat a plate of them in one sitting. They are his favorite!

We found this recipe from my girlfriend, Kelcy, who made us these cookies a few years ago around Christmas time and we fell in love. She sent me the recipe and I’ve made them ever since. Thank you, my girl Kelc! The original recipe came from Ambitious Kitchen by Monique Volz. Follow her on Instagram! She has great recipes and is the start to this great recipe in our family! Thank you, Monique. Your recipe has become a tradition for us.

Tomorrow, I’ll be baking a batch for our Christmas Eve festivities. Below are the ingredients and baking directions.

Happy Baking!

  • 2 1/4 cups all purpose flour
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp sea salt
  • 1 cup unsalted butter
  • 1 1/2 cups packed dark brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1 large egg plus 1 egg yolk
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 tbsp plain greek yogurt
  • 3/4 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 3/4 cup milk chocolate chips

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
  2. Whisk together flour, baking soda, and sea salt in a bowl, set aside.
  3. Melt butter in a saucepan over medium heat. Constantly whisk for 8-10 minutes. The butter will foam. Once it begins to have a nutty aroma, pour into a heat safe dish and set aside.
  4. Mix the butters and sugars together until thoroughly blended.
  5. Beat in the egg, yolk, vanilla, and yogurt until combined.
  6. Add the dry ingredients and beat slowly until combined.
  7. Stir in the chocolate chips.
  8. Chill the dough for 2 hours (if you don’t have 2 hours, I usually chill for 30 minutes)
  9. Once dough is chilled, measure a spoonful of dough into a ball and place onto greased cookie sheet.
  10. Press your thumb into each dough ball and sprinkle sea salt on top.
  11. Bake cookies for 9 – 11 minutes or until golden brown (11 minutes is the perfect amount of time for my oven!)

Enjoy! Merry Christmas!
