I am sitting here on my couch – in my sweats – and I couldn’t be happier (am I getting old or what? :)) The past 3 weeks have been a bit of a whirlwind. I was in NYC for work, then Idaho for Memorial Day Weekend, and then a Bachelorette party in SF last weekend. So it’s been busy to say the least – hence, why I’m excited to be on my couch 😉
I’ve had a lot on my mind lately and thought I’d share what I’ve been learning with hopes that it’ll help you when these topics cross yours:
- Embrace the Phase of Life you are In. Are you the type (A) of person that is always ready for the next moment in life? Whether its getting that new job, taking the next step with your man/woman, or making that next big purchase. If you are that person, I’m with you! And lately, I’ve been praying for patience, contentment, and grace – us humans can be pretty hard on ourselves. Ultimately, I’m trying to cherish the present moments, instead of heightening my anxiety for the future ones. The lesson I’ve been learning in all of this, is to pause. Pause when you wake up in the morning and enjoy your coffee, pause throughout the day and look out the window, or pause and take a deep breath if you’re feeling anxious. I hope this helps any of you who may be feeling this way.
- Give, Give, Give. When I got back from the bachelorette party on Sunday night, Chuck and I grabbed dinner and were catching up on the weekend. At one point in the conversation, he said, ‘Babe, I felt the Lord speaking to me today at Church.’ (Which brought a tear to my eye and I didn’t even know what he was going to say). He proceeded to say, ‘We need to give back more. We tithe at church but we need to help individuals – maybe volunteer at Boys and Girls club or give money to a charity regularly.’ This has been weighing on my heart all week and have to say, I’m pretty excited to get this giving going. I’ll keep you all posted on what we end of doing, but had to share. I hope this inspires you to volunteer at a local shelter or charity too. If you have one you already volunteer or give to, please let me know.
- When you Need a Break, Take one. We all work hard. Whether we’re running around, chasing our 2 year old, to raising a new born, to working a Corporate job, teaching 27 kids everyday, or whatever you may do – you work hard. On top of that, we have a life and it doesn’t always fall into the place you think it should be falling into (I always remind myself, when we plan, God laughs!). So gosh darn it, we need a break! Here’s how you can take one: During your day – when your little one is napping, you are running to lunch at work, going to the bathroom at school, or whenever you are taking 2 mins for yourself – take 3 deep breaths, close your eyes, and say, Thank you Jesus. This seriously has calmed my heart and my mind and allows me to take a break from the demanding days we have. Try it and let me know if it works for you.
I hope you can relate to the few topics that have been top of mind. If you have any learnings, please share!
