Whenever I go to Target, I always seem to spend at least $100. Anyone else in the same boat? I buy some cleaning supplies, house stuff, and then see the clothes – grab a shirt, and I’m at $100 bucks. Well, this past weekend, I needed to replenish some cleaning supplies so stopped at Target. I, of course, stopped by the clothing section and stumbled upon this faux fur coat. I thought – gosh, how cute is this color – and it has pockets?? And it’s only $39.99 – what a steal. So I tried it on and then started overthinking it – ‘do I really need this?’, ‘Am I actually going to wear it?’ – all of those questions start running through my mind. So I take the coat off, place it back on its hanger and start to put it back on the rack, when this gal comes up to me and goes, ‘I don’t mean to be creepy but I’ve been watching you try this gorgeous coat on and you HAVE to get it. I tried it on and it didn’t look half as good as it does on you!’ So then I started reconsidering it and thought, well maybe this is a sign from the Lord that I absolutely need to buy this coat. 🙂
Next thing I know, it’s in my cart and I’m handing it to the cashier to ring up. Once I brought it home, I showed Chuck and he goes, ‘Babe, I really like it – good find!’ <insert shocked face> Ok, this doesn’t happen. Let me be clear, Chuck has an opinion about my clothes (which I love!) but doesn’t really get excited about my purchases – so for him to like is a total win!
I decided to wear this look with the faux fur coat to date night with some friends on Saturday night and I’m going to be honest – I may have felt like P.Diddy but I loved it! It was so warm – which was perfect for a cold, winter night. You may be thinking, where are you going with this story – well it brings me back to my #1 rule when purchasing clothes:
‘If you don’t like the item within 5 seconds (not minutes!) of looking at it – you’ll never wear it, so don’t buy it!’
And I realized, I get in this rut when I’m about to purchase something – I go back and forth in my head but then I reflect to when I first laid eyes on that piece and if I loved it right away – I knew I’d wear it.
Do you have a trick to purchasing clothes?
